Landowners Association conducts land use and property rights seminar

The South Carolina Landowners Association conducted a Land Use and Property Rights Seminar, Nov. 2, at The Phoenix Greenville’s Inn.
The Columbia-based association is dedicated to the promotion and protection of property rights and conducts seminars throughout the state.
The Greenville seminar consisted of presentations by the following:
Rep. Dwight Loftis (R-Greenville County), a member of the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs, and Rules Committees, who gave a legislative update on real property law.
Mark Nix, executive director of the association, who spoke on Local Government Spending: South Carolina’s Impending Fiscal Crisis.
Wendell Cox, principal of Wendell Cox Consultancy (Demographia), who spoke on the War on the American Dream: How Anti-sprawl Policy Threatens the Quality of Life.
Bert Gall, senior attorney for the Institute of Justice, who spoke on Eminent Domain Abuses and South Carolina Condemnation Laws.
The seminar is approved as continuing education units for attorneys, forestry workers, realtors, engineers and surveyors.
The South Carolina Landowners Association does the following:
* Fights to protect land values and property rights against county ordinances.
* Educates the public on the effects of Smart Growth, down-zoning, land restrictions, higher housing prices, and the restraint on citizens to make their own choices.
* Seeks to provide a just compensation law that holds governmental bodies accountable for their actions and protects the investment that South Carolinians make in their property.
* Informs legislators on how new wetlands regulations could affect thousands in the Low Country.
