Comments on this verse from my friend, Efren Narido:

The Scripture emphasizes to me that the Lord Jesus Christ is the great source of joy (David said, ”Delight yourself in the LORD” [Ps 37:4], Mary remarked, “My spirit rejoices in God my Savior” [Luke 1:47], and Paul wrote: “Rejoice in the Lord always” [Phil 4:4].

Many of us fail to realize an ingredient of love in 1 Corinthians 13. But it is evident in verse 6 – “delight” and “rejoice” (NIV, and the NASV emphasizes “rejoices”)! He who loves DELIGHTS! He who loves REJOICES!

That’s why I believe God is the happiest Being in all realities, because He loves much! He himself is love. He himself is JOY!

Could it be that God is also commanding us to DELIGHT in him with all our heart, with all our understanding and with all our strength? And we are breaking the FIRST – the prime – commandment, if we enjoy more in our jobs, accomplishments, spouse, family, reputation, church, ministry, traditional beliefs, income, convenience, self or finding solution to problems, instituting reforms, many friends, having many options, and in many, many other things in this world?

Knowing him, does not mean you are just familiar with his works, but also his ways-- knowing him is knowing his name -- his whole being, his Person -- thus, you can really DELIGHT in him, for you are so familiar with him, you are acquainted with His "Beauty" -- Goodness, Majesty, Splendor, Love, Power, Holiness, Judgement, etc. -- in short, His Glory -- you are really satisfisfied and contented with him alone, you can rejoice in the Lord with all your heart, with all your strength, with all your mind, with all your soul (you can delight in him with all your capacities and power). Really knowing him will even motivate you to know him more (like Paul in Phil 3:8) and as you become more electrified with his Glory, your desire will be to make him known to others.
